Overview
If a driver can successfully update stops (for example, marking deliveries as completed) but their live location is not appearing on the Dispatch Map, the issue is typically caused by the app's location permissions on the Android device.
This commonly occurs when switching to a new phone, as app permissions may not be configured the same way as on the previous device.
Symptoms
You may notice one or more of the following:
- The driver is not visible on the Dispatch Map.
- The driver can still receive and complete deliveries.
- Order statuses update normally, but the driver's live location is not displayed.
Resolution
Verify that the Dispatch Science Driver App has permission to access the device's location at all times.
- Open Settings on the Android device.
- Tap Apps (or Applications).
- Select the Dispatch Science Driver app.
- Tap Permissions > Location.
- Set the location permission to Allow all the time.
- If it is set to Allow only while using the app, the app cannot continuously share the driver's location when running in the background.
- Return to the app settings and locate the Battery, Battery Optimization, or App Battery Usage settings (the name may vary by device manufacturer).
- Disable battery optimization or battery saving for the Dispatch Science Driver App to prevent Android from stopping the app while it is running in the background.
Additional Information
Android manages location permissions and battery optimization separately. Even if the device's main Location setting is enabled, the Dispatch Science Driver App must also be granted Allow all the time location access and be excluded from battery optimization for live driver tracking to function correctly.
Note: Menu names and settings may vary slightly depending on the Android device manufacturer and operating system version.
