Type vs. Schedule

Type

The Type represents a library of elements. These elements can be used to create one or more Schedules.

For example:

  • Parcel Types
    • Pallets, bags, envelopes, boxes, refrigeration box, etc.
  • Vehicle Types
    • Semi-Trailer, Step Van, Car, etc.
  • Service levels
    • 6 hours, 30 minutes, Same Day, Next Day, etc.
  • Fuel Surcharge Tables
    • Combination of type, fuel price and fuel calculator.
  • Extra Fees
    • Pick up wait time, Off hours, Additional Mileage, Return, etc.
  • Exception Codes
    • Bad weather, Snow storm, Damaged item, No one home, Returned by customer, etc.

Schedule

The Schedule represents a series of Types bundled together to form a grouping used for specific business cases or customers.

A default schedule is created and typically includes all Types available to most customers.

For example:

  • Parcel type schedule
    • A new Parcel Type Schedule can be created for an account who requires only refrigeration boxes of different sizes.
  • Service level schedule
    • A new Service level schedule is created for an account in agreement with a new contract specific to them.
  • Extra fee schedule
    • A new Extra fee schedule is created for an account  who is serviced after hours as per their contract, but an extra fee needs to be charged.
  • New schedule (exception code)
    • A new schedule (exception code) is created for customers likely to be affected by the winter weather.
  • Fuel surcharge
    • A new schedule is created using a fuel surcharge table and a rule for service level that changes the fuel surcharge table to a 0% table.
