How to Use Order Views?

Order views let you save the way you have set up your Order List — your filters, your columns, the way they are sorted and sized — and come back to that exact setup whenever you need it. Instead of rebuilding the same filters every morning, you can switch between saved views in a single click.

Every user starts with a Default view. You can create as many additional views as you need, update them as your workflow changes, and delete the ones you no longer use. Views are personal: they are saved to your own account, cannot be shared or copied, and are never visible to other users — even those working on the same account.

Hint: Order views work much like the saved views you may already know from the Dispatch Board.

What a View Remembers

A saved view captures the current configuration of your Order List:

  • The filters applied to any column
  • Which columns are visible (and which are hidden)
  • The column order
  • The column widths
  • The current sort (which column, ascending or descending)
  • The page size (number of rows per page)

A view does not remember temporary, per-session choices, so the following are never saved:

  • What you typed in the Search box
  • The date range selection
  • Your row selection, scroll position, and current page

Hint: Because the Search box and the date range are not part of a view, switching views will never change what you have typed in Search or the dates you are looking at.

The Views Button

The Views button sits at the very start of the Orders toolbar, immediately before the Search box. It always shows the name of the view you are currently using.

Click the button to open the views menu. It has two parts:

  1. MY VIEWS — the list of every view you have. A checkmark (✔) appears next to the view you are currently using. Click any row to switch to that view.
  2. Actions(at the bottom):
    • Save current view — saves your changes in the view you are on.
    • Save as new view — creates a brand-new view.
    • Delete current view — deletes the view you are on.

The unsaved-changes dot

Whenever you change something that a view remembers — a filter, the sort, a column width, and so on — a small orange dot (●) appears on the Views button. It means the view now differs from what was last saved. Hovering over the dot shows the tooltip "Unsaved changes."

The dot disappears again as soon as you save your changes (see Updating a view below) or switch to another view.

Creating a New View

  1. Set up the Order List the way you want it: apply your filters, show or hide columns, reorder and resize them, and choose your sort and page size.
  2. Click the Views button to open the menu.
  3. Click Save as new view.
  4. In the dialog that opens:
    • Enter a Name (required). The name must be unique and can be up to 100 characters.
    • Enter a Description (optional, up to 500 characters).
    • Review the This view will capture: summary, which lists exactly what is being saved — for example the number of visible columns, the number of active filters, the sort, and the page size.
  5. Click Save.

The new view is added to your MY VIEWS list and becomes the active view right away.

Hint: The Save button stays disabled until the name is valid. If you enter a name that is already used by one of your views, the message "A view with this name already exists." appears and you will need to choose a different name.

Hint: A view's name can't be changed later. To rename a view, create a new one with the name you want and delete the old one.

Updating a View

When you make changes to the view you are currently on, the orange dot appears and Save current view becomes available.

  1. Make your changes (filters, columns, sort, etc.). The orange dot appears on the button.
  2. Click the Views button.
  3. Click Save current view. Your changes overwrite the view, and the orange dot disappears.

Hint: When there is nothing new to save, Save current view is disabled and shows a small "no changes" note. This is normal — it simply means the view already matches what is on screen.

Important — unsaved changes are discarded:

  • If you switch to another view while you have unsaved changes, those changes are silently discarded. There is no prompt asking you to save first.
  • Unsaved changes are not kept between sessions. If you want to keep a change, use Save current view or Save as new view before switching or leaving.

Deleting a View

  1. Switch to the view you want to delete so that it is the active view.
  2. Click the Views button.
  3. Click Delete current view.
  4. A confirmation appears: "This will permanently delete the selected view. The grid will fall back to the Default view." Click Delete to confirm.

After deletion, the Order List falls back to your Default view.

The Default View

Every user automatically gets a Default view the first time they open the Order List. It behaves like any other view, with one exception — it cannot be deleted:

  • You can switch away from it and back to it at any time.
  • You can update it with Save current view.
  • You can use it as the starting point for Save as new view.
  • The Delete current view action is disabled while the Default view is active.

What you see when you return

  • The first time you open the Order List, your Default view is shown.
  • On later visits, the Order List reopens on the last view you were using, so you pick up right where you left off.

Don't see the Views Button?

The order views feature is controlled by a setting on your account. If the Views button does not appear at the start of your Orders toolbar, the feature has not been enabled for your account yet. Please contact the Dispatch Science support team to have it turned on.
